The message from the recent Institute of Risk Management Forum, which I attended, was pretty unequivocal. Risk management is (or should be) all about culture; establishing a corporate culture in which all your employees are risk literate and make decisions on that basis. Of course, the other thing that was apparent from the Forum is that this is easier to say than to do. It’s a message that chimes with a number of our books, such as, Sidney Dekker’s Just Culture or Ending the Blame Culture by Michael Pearn, Chris Mulrooney and Tim Payne.
