Tomorrow, Gower is sponsoring and attending PMI Synergy 2012 at Indig02, London. You will find Jonathan Norman (Publishing Director) and Anton Clark (Marketing) on stand S-9, who will be displaying a bumper crop of project management books from industry experts, along with a special prize giveaway. Please do come by the stand and say hello.

Synergy is a celebration of project management. Held on International Project Management Day in London, the event will inform, educate, entertain and provide great networking opportunities. Proudly, it is one of the largest events of its kind in the UK.

We are proud to be part of such an important and influential event and very much hope to see you tomorrow.

The forthcoming event for the London Constructing Excellence Club will be taking place on 17th April. Uly Ma will be speaking at the event which is focussed on the areas of sustainability and retrofitting. He will be talking about his NoWaste Project which is part of the London Learning Legacy, along with providing information from his book,  No Waste.

No Waste

Uly Ma has received fantastic recognition for his NoWaste project within the Olympics construction, winning two awards. The project has also been selected as part of the London 2012 Learning Legacy. What a fantastic achievement!

Uly’s two awards are:

  • Most Effective Training (2009) from the Safety, Health and Environment Leadership Team (SHELT)
  • Special Achievements Award (2011) from National Skills Academy for Construction- London 2012 Construction (NSAfC- London 2012).

Uly’s NoWaste project is currently on-going at the Olympic Park and Village and is based on his book.

No Waste

Uly Ma’s NoWaste project has been selected as part of the London 2012 Learning Legacy for the Olympics. Through the Learning Legacy project, the Olympic Delivery Authority is sharing the knowledge and the lessons learned from the construction of the Olympic Park, to help raise the bar within the sector and act as a showcase for UK plc. You can view and download the NoWaste Lean Construction Training Programme here for more information about the fantastic work Uly has been doing as part of the forthcoming London 2012 Olympics.

The NoWaste project is currently on-going at the Olympic Park and Village and is based on Uly’s book, No Waste: Managing Sustainability in Construction

No Waste

One of the most rewarding things for a publisher is to see the connection between the ideas and guidance in our books and application of good management in practice. Uly Ma’s book, No Waste, has drawn heavily on his experiences working with the ‘No  Waste’ programme on the 2012 Olympic construction projects. There is a very interesting write up for the programme as part of the ‘Learning Legacy’ for the games on the 2012 website

Uly Ma (author of the forthcoming Gower book, No Waste: Managing Sustainability in Construction) has some fun with the idea of scenarios or simulations, which he compares with the process of making the perfect pizza. Light-heartedness aside, this is a very neat way of introducing the elements in designing a successful business experiment for anyone who is new to the process.

I have just handed Uly Ma’s No Waste: Managing Sustainability in Construction over to our production editorial team and to celebrate this milestone, I thought I’d share with you Uly’s article on the origin’s of waste. In the article he identifies eight hidden wastes that will be (perhaps grudgingly) familiar to most organizations. He also offers his own view of the three main causes of waste. Good practical advice for all businesses, particularly in a time of economic austerity.

Jean Binder, author of Global Project Management  (Awarded ‘best of the best’ Project Management Book by the Project Management Institute 2008), will participate in the Congres de Management de Projet in Switzerland,  and present the topic “Human Resource Management in Global Projects”.

Jean Binder, PMP, has more than 20 years of experience working in project environments, most of them living abroad and communicating in multi-cultural and multi-language environments. He has particular experience of managing global projects, having implemented collaborative tools and techniques in a number of global organisations.

The Presentation will be on Thursday 28th April 2011, 10:30 to 12:10 at The University of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Lynda Bourne’s work on stakeholder management has developed into a significant body of knowledge (Stakeholder Realtionship Management) and she’s recently done some useful work on stakeholder management in construction which she has made available on her website: http://www.mosaicprojects.com.au/Resources_Papers_049.html
